ABOUT US
BERRY BRANCH
Berry Branch is a floral design studio located in Somerville, MA.
We began serving clients in 2018, but expanded to a full-time business with a brick & mortar studio in late 2020.
We have a hybrid business model. Our schedule revolves around our specialty, which is full-service wedding & event design. However, we do still offer some retail services like daily floral delivery & a floral subscription. Since shifting to an event-focused, studio model in 2022, we no longer offer retail hours or walk-in sales except for major holidays. Please place an order online for pick up or delivery!
KATIE WILHELM
Hi there, I’m Katie, the owner & Designer behind Berry Branch. I am an avid gardener and nature explorer. Naturally, I draw inspiration from the textures, colors, and movement found in the garden and the lush New England landscape. I’m a lover of design in many forms, but find most joy in using flowers to respond to architecture, interior & event design. My specialty is modern garden-style floral design. This wild yet refined floral design approach seeks to honor each botanical element & bloom, while simultaneously presenting a harmonious story. I’m most excited by work that reflects the season. While I am always eager to use vibrant, plush blooms, what makes each arrangement feel connected to the present is the understory. Maybe it’s a flowering vine, a fruit-bearing branch, a foliage freshly cut from the garden. It’s the intricate details and layers that make the blooms (& my heart) sing. Maybe I don’t have to explain how the business got its name now?
When I’m not busy at work, I can be found running, kayaking, birding, hiking, gardening, or cooking up a recipe that undoubtedly requires a plethora of fresh herbs. I may even be sourcing supplies for a craft that I hardly find the time to complete. Relaxing? Not my forte… too many ideas, too little time.
SUSTAINABILITY
As florists & gardeners, it’s obvious that we love nature. Like every other agricultural industry, the floral industry isn’t exempt from the resource-intensive burden associated with the growing & transporting live plants and flowers. We are far from being completely sustainable, but we are trying.
We compost all of our organic scraps with Black Earth Compost.
We source locally when we can. In New England, it’s impossible to source locally 100% of the time, but that doesn’t mean we aren’t thinking about it and trying to source American-grown flowers.
We GROW what we can! Using our limited urban garden space, we have set out to grow as many textural components and special blossoms as we can. Ask us about our garden progress.
Our favorite designs are made without floral foam. We use it on occasion for tricky situations like a sweltering hot wedding day install, but try not to. We use about one box a year.
We are open to new ideas & innovations that would help us reduce our carbon footprint. Talk to us!
